Upuli Gamage and Chamali Gamage, two identical twin sisters, turned a simple idea into a meaningful national and global movement by establishing the Sri Lanka Twins Organization on 23rd of August 1993. What started as a shared vision soon became a pioneering initiative in Sri Lanka, bringing twins and multiple-birth families together under one supportive community.
At a time when there was limited recognition or networking opportunities for twins, their effort created a space for connection, identity, and belonging. The organization was founded to celebrate the bond of twinhood while offering support and friendship to twins, triplets, and their families. Over time, it grew into a national platform that fostered awareness, unity, and lasting relationships among multiples across the country.
Through their dedication, Upuli and Chamali Gamage transformed a personal understanding into a lasting movement that continues to represent unity, identity, and family-like connection among multiples in Sri Lanka. The organization became more than just a social group — it created a sense of belonging for families with multiples, providing opportunities for friendships, gatherings, awareness programs, and memorable events celebrating twinhood.
Upuli and Chamali's vision helped transform isolated experiences into a nationwide family of multiples. Their dedication showed how one idea, driven by passion and understanding, could create lasting connections among thousands of people.
